Octopin vs Fleek

The web3 hosting platform that pivoted to AI and closed its hosting.

Verdict

Fleek discontinued its hosting on January 31, 2026. For the IPFS side, Octopin keeps your files and build folders pinned with the same CIDs. For the website itself, pair a static host (GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages) with an Octopin pin, which is the modular setup the IPFS project recommends.

When to pick Fleek

Fleek's hosting is gone, so there is nothing to pick. If you need an all-in-one IPFS site host with custom domains and DNSLink handled for you, look at a dedicated hosting product. Octopin is a pinning service, not a site builder.

  • • Was an all-in-one product: builds from Git, IPFS pinning, custom domains and DNSLink in one place.
  • • Good developer experience for static sites while it lasted.

Where we differ

  • • An active IPFS pinning service focused on one job: keeping your content online.
  • • Same CIDs when you re-upload the same files, so ipfs:// links keep working.
  • • Unlimited bandwidth on every plan, including free.
  • • Pin from CI or Kubo with the standard Pinning Service API.

How to switch from Fleek to Octopin

  1. Create a free Octopin account with Google sign-in. No wallet, no card for the free plan.
  2. List the CIDs you have pinned on Fleek. If you still have the original files, upload them to Octopin: the same bytes always produce the same CID.
  3. On a paid plan you can skip the re-upload and import content directly by CID, or upload a CAR export of your data.
  4. Check a few CIDs on gateway.octopin.app and a public gateway like ipfs.io. If your contract uses ipfs:// URIs, nothing on-chain changes.
  5. Keep the old pins until everything resolves from Octopin, then remove them from Fleek.

Moving a whole collection? Read the IPFS migration playbook and why contracts should use ipfs:// URIs, not gateway URLs.

FAQ

How do I move a site that was hosted on Fleek?

Host the static build on GitHub Pages or Cloudflare Pages for normal HTTPS, and pin the same build folder on Octopin so it stays available on IPFS. If you used DNSLink, point the _dnslink TXT record at the new CID after each deploy.

Can Octopin host my website with a custom domain?

Not today. Octopin pins content and serves it from gateway.octopin.app by CID. Custom domains and site builds are better handled by a static host, with Octopin keeping the IPFS copy pinned.

I had NFT files on Fleek storage. Are they lost?

Not necessarily. If you still have the files, upload them to Octopin and you get the same CIDs. If not, importing the CID on a paid plan fetches it from any IPFS node that still has a copy.
