When to pick web3.storage / Storacha
Pick Storacha's Filecoin Pin migration if you need on-chain Filecoin storage receipts and have an EVM wallet on hand. Otherwise, Octopin is the simpler off-ramp.
- • Protocol Labs / Filecoin ecosystem — official IPFS team's offering.
- • Free tier was previously generous (5 GB).
- • Their data is currently being migrated to Filecoin Pin with on-chain durability guarantees.
Where we differ
- • No wallet needed — Google sign-in like a normal SaaS.
- • Active service, not sunsetting.
- • Migration tool fetches your old CIDs and re-pins them on our infra — same CID, no contract changes.
FAQ
I have content on Storacha — what happens after May 31, 2026?
The Storacha public gateway (w3s.link) shuts down. Your CIDs are still valid on the global IPFS network, but you need them pinned somewhere active to stay resolvable. Migrate to Octopin or Filecoin Pin before the deadline.
Will my existing CIDs work without changes?
Yes — IPFS CIDs are content-addressed. As long as someone keeps the bytes pinned somewhere on the network, the CID resolves. Octopin will re-pin your existing CIDs on our infrastructure with no contract changes needed.
